After a long winter, your lawn is hungry and ready to grow. A little attention in early spring sets the tone for the whole season. Here's the simple routine our crews use on hundreds of lawns each year.

1. Rake away the winter debris

Clear leaves, twigs and matted grass so sunlight and air reach the soil. This also helps you spot any bare patches early.

2. Aerate compacted soil

Foot traffic and frost leave soil dense. A quick core aeration lets water and nutrients reach the roots.

"A lawn is only as healthy as the soil beneath it — start there."

3. Feed with a spring fertilizer

Choose a balanced, slow-release feed to encourage steady green growth without sudden flushes.

What to look for on the bag

  • An N-P-K ratio suited to spring growth
  • Slow-release nitrogen
  • No weed killer if you're overseeding

4. Overseed thin areas

Drop seed on bare spots and keep them lightly moist. Within weeks you'll see a thicker, more even turf.

5. Set a mowing rhythm

Once growth starts, mow regularly but never cut more than a third of the blade at a time.

Follow these steps and your lawn will be the envy of the street by summer. Need a hand? Our lawn care plans do the work for you.
